Homemade memories and jam

My mother in law is wonderful.  I’m not kidding you here.  She raised 4 college graduate kids, who are 6 years apart.  She also has her masters degree, and is an amazing cook.

Around mid June, she mentioned to me that she was planning to go strawberry picking.  She does this yearly and last year, in an off period, we made her homemade jam.  The jam that time was good, but nothing compared to the fresh picked stuff she’d made earlier in the year.  We have been stealing it from her freezer at least once a month throughout the year.

When I heard her mention it, I asked if I could tag along.  The day she could go, the older kiddos were at school, and my father in law offered to watch Max.  We went to a local place, and for an hour, we sat in a field and picked 4 gallon buckets full.  We shared stories, and it was really nice to spend some alone time with her.  She also mentioned that she used to to the same thing with her Mother in law.  I really loved the time.

My father in law ended up picking up the boys, and we spent the day with them making Jam.  It was wonderful.

This little outing sprung me to want to try and include Joe and the kids on doing this as well.  As usual, my mother in law was glad to come along.  We had a blast, and I thought I’d share with you the photos of that day.
