Traditions

We have been really enjoying some of our family traditions lately.

A new and wonderful one was doing this…..

I’ve always wanted 2 of the things in the photo above.  The stockings to be personalized, and a fireplace to hang them….. Just love it.

There’s also been loads of x-mas music playing all day and night.  I almost cry when I hear Jack singing the songs, or see Luke dancing to them.  Remind me to tell you about Luke and a certian song later.

Then there’s the tradition that we look forward to from the time Halloween is over and we know x-mas is on it’s way.

The Tree going up… We had lots of help this year and the placement of our ornaments reflect little boys taste :)

The making of cookies at home to share with our family…….

Then there’s the crem’ de’ la’ crem (sp?) The annual V family cookie day.

I kid you not (and if you’ve been a reader long enough you know that we make 29 different kinds of cookies, bars, and yummy treats. AND, most aren’t just a batch, but up to 6X of a batch.

To go even further, I thought I heard something like 15 lbs of butter and I know that for one kind of cookie, each family (there are 5) took home 60 of just that kind.

Here’s some of our haul today….

It’s fun, it’s yummy, and a tradition we enjoy every year.

**The spelling here may suck, but I’m having internet issues.  So, please excuse me.

Cabin 2010 (part 1)

Every year, since I was 9, we have rented a cabin in northern MN for a week.

I caught my first fish there, learned to tube, and get an (H2O bottom cleanse or) water ski (as most would call it) as well.

There are traditions at this place.  Even before we leave, there are traditions.

For example: We bake 4 doz cookies to bring up.  And  hide 1/2 of them, because the first half is gone by Tuesday.

We ride up in a caravan, and stop midway up at the same restaurant, year after year.

We get ice cream at a local place that makes it like heaven might taste, and the sizes are so large, I end up getting a half of a kids cone.

This year was no different.  The weather was decent.  The memories were fun. This year, my boys also caught their first fish.

Here is our little annual vacation, in pictures.

Above are the boys (and their cousin J) “testing” the cookies I made.

*** Notice Oreo trying to test in the bottom one and be photographed in the top one :)

Cousin J slept over, and Joe & I were giggling when we noticed that he and Jack were both sleeping in the top, twin sized bunk, together.  Too cute.

I also must mention that the morning we left for the cabin, we gave our nephew J, a haircut.  Jack asked for one also, and then proceeded to decide after 1 minute, that he “didn’t want one Daddy.”

Joe then (fought) talked to him about just finishing up to fix what he had already started.  Let’s just say it turned out (badly) wonderful. m’kay.

Here is the first photo I took after we arrived.  Can you tell Poppa, Nana G., and the kids are pumped to be there.

One we un-packed and had a boat ride, we decided to head to the park and burn off some of the “stuck in the car all day” energy.

We also went fishing.  Many, Many times.

The first time, I remembered the camera.

Here is Jack smiling at me from the dock and below that with his pole.

Cousin J is here also with his pole and below that is Lukey, just chillin’.  He loved the boat and the water.

It’s important to remember the bench Lukey and Joe are sitting on, because the next day poor Poppa fell into the lake while leaning off this bench (thinking it was nailed down).  He was trying to help the boys fish more.

Here they are after catching their first fishies.  Also Luke decided he wanted some of the action too.  That lasted just long enough for me to get the shot of it.

That’s all for now…. however I’ll leave you with a teaser about part 2.  Let’s just say that only in MN… in Aug., do you need a hat like this…. on a boat! :)

We’ve nicknamed this photo “Cool Man Luke”
